Since 2014 Reenie has been proudly bringing her passion for health care to her own community at Blue Mountains.
Reenie describes the culture at Blue Mountains Hospital as a tight knit community where everyone is supportive and collaborative, no matter their position.
“Our culture is like a family. Everybody is willing to lend a helping hand, is collaborative, and full of kind people,” says Reenie.
As a Blue Mountains local, Reenie’s priority is to ensure the best outcomes for women and children in her community. As part of her mission, Reenie is working on implementing a continuity of care model for midwives – a model ensuring women receive antenatal and postnatal care from a known midwife or midwives.
“The continuity of care model is known to improve outcomes allowing women to feel more comfortable with their midwife(s) so they don’t have to keep telling their story over and over again at every appointment,” says Reenie.
Establishing continuity from birth to adolescence through a family centred care approach is also important to Blue Mountains Hospital with many of the children born in the Hospital treated in the paediatric ward when sick or unwell.
Blue Mountains Hospital Acting General Manager, Naomi Jensen says Reenie’s passion for providing high quality women centred care is evident in her everyday practice as both a midwife and as a manager and leader of the Women’s and Children’s Unit.
“Reenie is a strong advocate for ensuring Blue Mountains Hospital is meeting the needs of our local community and that our consumers have positive experiences and outcomes,” says Naomi.
Reenie encourages anyone who’s interested or passionate to explore a career in health.
“Working in health you create bonds with your teammates that can never be broken because you work through so many challenges together, as much as you have opportunities,” says Reenie.
