The purpose of the Guidelines is to:
- provide clear principles to guide workers interactions and support efforts
- help understand the diverse experiences and needs of people facing homelessness
- offer practical strategies to build trust and offer meaningful support.
The Guidelines include:
- models of care for appropriate responses
- 18 appendices with best practices for engaging people with diverse needs and circumstances
- Statewide resources to help workers provide assistance when requested.
Workers are encouraged to refer to multiple appendices when providing support due to the intersectionality of a person’s needs.
The Guidelines were co-designed with:
- StreetCare, the Justice and Equity Centre’s lived experience advisory group
- Contributions from over 32 signatories and subject matter experts.
