Your specialist has recommended surgery for you. This guide will help you prepare. It provides tips on planning for your hospital stay and guides you on what to do and expect before and after surgery. You'll also find advice on how to improve your health before your surgery.
Read the Get ready for surgery (PDF 2.32MB) booklet and this guide before your surgery, and share it with your family, friends, and carers who might help you before and after the procedure. The sooner you start preparing, the better your health will be for the surgery.
Here’s how this guide and booklet is organised:
We want to work with you in making decisions about your care, treatment, and health. If you'd like a family member, friend, or carer to join you when you talk with your doctor, please let us know so we can arrange it. If you need extra support with communication or language, tell us, and we’ll make sure you get the help you need in the hospital.
If you have any questions about the booklet or this guide, ask your GP, hospital doctor, or nursing staff. It can be helpful to write down your questions before your appointment, as it’s easy to forget them during the visit.
Also, make sure you let the hospital staff know if you change your postal address, email address, or phone number at any time before your surgery.
