John Hunter Hospital Solar Array Project was introduced to us by the Facilities Maintenance Unit General Manager Mr. Phil Groulton, who asked Public Works for a proposal to project manage the project.
Capacity of the system was over 2.2 megawatts, which is a very large system—5,300 panels. Each panel was 450 watts per panel. The system is now fully operational and saving the client roughly 12% of their energy.

Public Works has a very long and very mature relationship with Hunter New England's Local Health District. It's gone over many years through many project managers, many directors of this region ans that’s sort of built not just on trust and longevity, but it’s built on shared values as well.
So, when Hunter New England came to us, or we started to hear about their wider sustainability strategy, we were very excited and basically one of the earliest projects was this flagship project at John Hunter.

My role specifically is as the principal's authorised person, so contractually that’s running the contract for the principal.
So that involves talking directly with the client as well as keeping the contractor, the successful tenderer, accountable for running the full project themselves as well.
It's been a fantastic project to work on, both personally and as a team at Public Works Advisory.
I believe we've managed to get a great outcome for the client, the contractor, and the end user, the hospital.

This project is a magnificent project and benefit the community in energy savings, but I took away from the project of pride a lot of pride to complete this project with safety, on time, on budget, and to the satisfaction of the client, saving energy.
