The palliative care team has had a long history in organising these events in the past, but it has been several years since the last Remembrance Service was held.
The Palliative Care team acknowledge that Christmas can be difficult time without our loved one, who may have died recently or even some years ago, hence the service being held in December.
Steve Hoskin, Palliative Care Bereavement Counsellor, said: "This is a whole of community memorial service where we get the opportunity to remember those we have loved and lost; to honour the significant impact they have had on ours and other people's lives; and to share the experience with others who are going through a similar sense of loss”.
This year the service will take place in Sturt Park, meeting at the corner of Wolfram and Chloride streets. We are asking people to bring a photo of their loved one which will be placed in a communal display to remember and honour them.
We will also be lighting candles (provided on the night) to remember the light these people bought to our lives, as well as their ongoing influence.
All are welcome to attend, even if your loved one did not receive services from Palliative Care.
When: Wednesday, 4 December from 7pm-8pm.
Where: Sturt Park (corner Wolfram and Chloride Streets) Broken Hill.
What to bring: A photo of your loved one, a camping chair if you are able to, or a picnic blanket (very limited seating provided).
