The free service provides safe, reliable and accessible care to all local residents.
FWLHD Acting Director Clinical Operations Rebecca Smith said the service uses video conferencing technology to connect patients with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, including doctors and nurses, where clinically appropriate.
“Having access to a diverse range of services when people need them is so important living in the bush,” Ms Smith said.
“It is great to have this new service now available as an additional enhancement for people in the Far West.
“We really hope it will enrich people’s experience in accessing care via different methods and improve timely access to services that people need.”
The virtualAdults service provides safe virtual care for non-life-threatening conditions, illnesses and injuries including:
- coughs, colds, fevers and flu
- respiratory symptoms
- vomiting and diarrhoea
- minor infections and rashes.
People can access this service from the comfort of their home by phoning HealthDirect on 1800 022 222. They will first speak to a Registered Nurse who will assess their condition, and if appropriate, refer them to the virtual care service.
The service is available between 8am and 10pm seven days a week for people aged 16 years and older.
People are advised to visit their nearest emergency department or call Triple Zero (000) in the event of an emergency.
