Grow your career with us
Be part of a team where everyone, everyday has the opportunity to learn and grow.
Learning and development
We understand the importance of continuing to learn and grow in your career. This is why we provide a range of learning and development opportunities to keep upskilling and nurturing our people.
Development plans
Managers and employees are encouraged to meet regularly to discuss progress, capabilities, ambitions and development opportunities.
Together, we can identify the capabilities you need to acquire to get where you want to go and put a plan in place to help develop your skills.
This can include professional training done through a registered training organisation, online training and on-the-job training.
No matter what stage of your career you’re in, we offer our staff opportunities to increase skills to become better at what they do.
Online training
We offer round-the-clock access to a library of more than 10,000 online courses to help you grow and develop your skills professionally and personally.
This library offers a wealth of online resources and allows you to train at your own pace.
You can take your time assimilating the information and choose when it’s right to move onto the next course without having to worry about keeping pace with others.
One of the most significant advantages of our online training library is allowing you to follow your own path.
Everyone has different goals and areas of improvement. So, we don’t offer a ‘one-size-fits-all’ program. There’s something there for everyone and our People and Culture team are adding new courses constantly.
Our most popular online courses
Software development and how to use different programs and technologies, content writing and data analysis.
Building team relationships and productivity, identifying and leveraging individual strengths, problem solving and conflict resolution.
Project management, testing and quality assurance, evaluation and improvement.
NSW public service talent pools
If you interviewed for a job at the department and came close but didn't win the role, you can be added to a 'talent pool'.
Being placed in a talent pool means you don’t need to go through the process all over again and you can be fast-tracked into another role should your experience and expertise match the requirements of that role.
This gives you the opportunity to be considered for multiple roles over 18 months.
We tap into these talent pools consistently, so apply for a role today. You never know where it might lead to.
Communities of practice
Have you ever wanted to join a community of like-minded people or a group who share similar interests?
Our communities of practice help build out your networks with other professionals that work in your field.
Across the NSW Government, there are communities of practice in areas such as customer experience, finance, HR, change, ICT, records management, procurement and policy.
You can find more information about other communities of practice on the Comprac website.
Our programs
NSW Leadership Academy
The NSW Leadership Academy is just one initiative we are involved in, designed to create a pipeline of future leaders for the Public Sector starting at a pre-executive level.
The Leadership Academy delivers trusted leadership development programs that transform the individual and their teams to deliver benefits for the people of NSW.
These signature programs are designed to exceed the development needs of exceptional NSW public sector executives and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander emerging leaders.
Participants of the Leadership Academy commit to being challenged.
Graduates program
The NSW graduate program is for people who have completed an undergraduate or post-undergraduate degree in the last two years.
The program goes for 18 months, starting in February each year. During that time, you’ll complete placements in different roles across NSW Government.
From day one, you’ll work on projects that contribute to making our state a great place to live, work and visit.
Graduates receive a competitive salary, support to complete post-graduate study, extensive mentoring and networking activities and a permanent role upon completion of the program.
Mentoring program
Our mentoring program will connect you with a mentor - a high performing employee at the Department to grow your knowledge, skills, and experience.
You will develop confidence and self-awareness, and get exposure to new and different perspectives that will help grow your career.
You will be able to tap into senior employees to grow your professional network.
And being a mentor goes far beyond the rewarding feeling of 'giving back'. There are a huge range of personal development benefits that mentors gain from the experience, including leadership, the art of delivering feedback and increased job satisfaction.
