This toolkit is designed as an entry-level guide to help Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and Aboriginal businesses in effectively monitoring, evaluating, and learning (MEL) from their grant initiatives. It aligns with the objectives of the Closing the Gap Grants Program and was culturally adapted to include community-led approaches.

This evaluation aimed to assess the strengths and opportunities of Closing the Gap grants program, measure the program's effectiveness in achieving its objectives, capture the outcomes on ACCOs and businesses, record lessons learned and provide recommendations for future capacity-building programs.

The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the new Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Toolkit and factsheets for Aboriginal businesses and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs). These have been developed by Curijo with Aboriginal Affairs NSW. The toolkit aligns with the MEL Framework, incorporating a cultural lens and aims to introduce basic MEL knowledge for grant-funded programs.

The Community Portraits used 2021 Census data to provide a snapshot on key statistics of health, employment and housing for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal households.

Connected Communities enables government and Aboriginal Communities to work together to create inclusive educational systems and positive outcomes for Aboriginal students.

Opportunity Hubs give young Aboriginal people confidence and knowledge to follow a supported pathway between primary and secondary school and onto further education and/or employment.

These Nests aim to revitalise, reclaim, and maintain traditional Aboriginal languages and cultural knowledge in schools.

This is a new Closing the Gap Partnership Agreement to strengthen relationships between government and Aboriginal organisations. It was signed on 12 February 2024. It was signed by the NSW Government, NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO) and Local Government NSW (LGNSW).
