- NSW Treasury has estimated the Gini coefficient using the NSW sample of Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey Wave 22 (General Release) and enumerated person level total financial year disposable income for the working age population, weighted. The working age population is defined as individuals that fall within the ages of 15 to 64 and who are not studying full-time. The Gini coefficient estimates use unit record data from HILDA conducted by the Australian Government Department of Social Services (DSS). - NSW Public Service Commission 2023, Workforce Profile Report 2023, NSW Government. The NSW Public Service Commission uses median data to calculate the NSW public sector pay gap. This explains why the pay gap is significantly lower than the NSW gender pay gap of 11.0 per cent that is calculated based on ABS average earnings data. The median is less sensitive to extreme values giving a picture of typical earnings.
