Julie is a senior Gumbaynggirr woman from Northern NSW with considerable experience in the community and justice sector.
Julie Perkins is a proud Gumbaynggirr woman from the North Coast of NSW. She is a passionate advocate for survivors of domestic and family violence having equity to all aspects of women’s participation in society.
Combining lived experience and professional expertise, Julie is a fierce advocate for her community and First Nations communities across Australia. She was instrumental in the creation of The Many Rivers Family Violence Prevention & Legal Service. This service empowers Aboriginal people to enhance their social and emotional wellbeing, by providing legal advice and representation.
Julie is a senior lead at the Australian Red Cross and works part time as CEO of a First Nations not-for-profit in the Clarence Valley. Julie previously worked at the Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) for over 24 Years in senior management roles. She was also the inaugural First Nations graduate from the School of Law and Justice at Southern Cross University.
Julie is a proud Australian Services Union member and sits on its Committee of Management and Executive Committee. She received the National Award for Excellence from the Attorney General among many of her other achievements.
Julie is a committee member of the North Coast Aboriginal Development Alliance, a ground-breaking program which works to engage with First Nations communities on community priorities and accountability. Julie seeks to build on the strengths of women and girls via education, employment and personal growth.
