Overview of this event
Join Blair French, curator of Dividing Range for a floor talk within the Collection presentation. Dividing Range brings together a selection of photographs, prints and paintings that are loosely connected by their explorations of human relationships to light, ways of seeing and the environment.
Blair will speak to the artworks in consideration of three overarching ideas: photographic process, relationships to place and flora, and the western notion of the sublime landscape. Dividing Range includes artworks by Brook Garru Andrew, James Farley, Fiona Hall, Marion Hardman, Gloria Petyarre, Ingeborg Tyssen, Justine Varga, Kim Westcott and Amanda Williams, among others.
Blair French is the CEO of MAMA. He was previously CEO, Carriageworks; Director, Curatorial and Digital, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) and Executive Director, Artspace Visual Arts Centre. He has curated numerous exhibitions in Australia and abroad including Shaun Gladwell: Pacific Undertow (2019, co-curator) and The National 2017: New Australian Art at the MCA as well as the 2011 and 2013 editions of the SCAPE Public Art: Christchurch Biennial. He has published extensively on contemporary art, performance and photography.
