Within a few hundred metres of the beautiful tree-studded banks of the Murrumbidgee River stands a school made famous by its contribution to the agricultural life of Australia. It has 280 hectares of rich arable land in a district noted for its remarkable agricultural productivity and for the pioneering work in irrigation farming of the late Sir Samuel McCaughey, one of the nation's best known graziers. Residential accommodation is provided for 350 students.
The 8,900 hectare North Yanko estate, was purchased by the State Government in 1912 for the initiation of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation area. The school land was transferred to the New South Wales Department of Education for education purposes and the Yanco Agricultural High School opened in the early months of 1922.
Visitors are welcome to view the main building during school term between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday only. Please call at the office to obtain a pass.
