Soak up the stunning Griffith weather and take a stroll along the picturesque main canal – the life blood of the city.
The main canal feeds from the Murrumbidgee River diverting 6,600 megalitres per day to the surrounding farms.
Walter Burley Griffin, in his plans for Griffith, envisaged parkland along the main irrigation canal and this has come to fruition with the development of the Burley Griffin Community Gardens, City Park and the Centenary Walk.
Featuring a family friendly outdoor park with climbing frame and splash pad in summer, native gardens and paved piazza, as well as the beautiful granite Centenary Sculptures created to commemorate 100 years of progress in Griffith. There are also a number of free barbeques, picnic tables and a water bottle refill station in this precinct.
The enhancement and linking of green space along the main canal with the city emphasises the importance of water and irrigation as the life blood of this area.
Griffith is an RV Friendly town, with free camping at The Willows along the main canal for motorhomes and caravans. Facilities include toilets (no showers), coin operated barbeque, access to drinking water via spring loaded tap or fit vandal resistant tap handle, dump point and pets allowed if on a lead.
