It’s all about family fun at the Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in Knockrow (about 20 minutes south of Byron), where animals, kids’ activities and sweet treats are a winning combination as far as the little ones are concerned.
Formerly the Macadamia Castle, this iconic venue has been entertaining families since 1975. It’s home to more than 150 animals, from kangaroos and koalas to snakes and native birds.
You’ll find a bird aviary and a reptile display, as well as lots of keeper talks and animal encounters. You'll also love our wildlife experiences! Feed the resident sugar gliders, and book an experience with our Barn Owl or Tawny Frogmouth. During the school holidays, kids can even become a Keeper for a Day or Wildlife Guardian in our kid's day programs and go behind the scenes at the Sanctuary.
The Sanctuary also has a small playground, a waterpark, an 18-hole mini golf course, lots of macadamia goodies and fine foods, a retail gift shop, a café that sells some legendary pancakes, and a bar for grown-ups to sample local beer and cocktails.
