Guide to supporting documents
Find information about the documents needed to submit along with your online application form, specific to your visa subclass.
Mandatory documents
Several documents are mandatory to provide at the time you apply for NSW nomination for all applicants – these are marked with an asterisk (*) in the application form.
Other documents are mandatory if they are applicable to your circumstance, including:
- Department of Home Affairs' decision record for previous visa refusals. You must provide the decision record with your application if you have previously had a visa refused or cancelled by the Department of Home Affairs
- Letter of release by other state or territory. If you were nominated by another state or territory for your Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) or Business Talent (Permanent) visa (subclass 132), you must provide a letter of release from that state or territory to eligible for NSW nomination for the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888), or seek NSW support in the Department of Home Affairs survey of your Business Talent visa (subclass 132), respectively
Document size limit
The total file size of all attached supporting documents cannot exceed 35MB. Note: this is a total file size and not the per document limit.
If you need to reduce the total size of your supporting documents, we suggest:
- Attaching documents in PDF format only
- Attaching only the sections of lengthy documents with key information. For example, property valuations often include many pages of photos of that we do not require for our assessment
Overseas financial statements and property valuations
Applying for NSW nomination
You can provide financial statements that have been prepared in your (or your business’) home country to demonstrate your business’ turnover when applying for NSW nomination. Similarly, you can provide property valuations undertaken by a firm in your home country as evidence of your net property assets when applying for NSW nomination.
Contact us if you are applying with documents that will expire before our processing timeframe and we will endeavour to assess your application before the deadline.
Applying for your visa to Home Affairs
Home Affairs has their own set of guidelines for what documents are required when applying for a visa. You can find this information on the Home Affairs website for the relevant visa stream.
If you are applying from China, Macau, Hong Kong or Taiwan please refer to the document checklist from the Australian Consulate-General Hong Kong.
Certified documents or colour scans
Supporting documents must be certified black and white copies, or colour scans of the original document.
Translations
All non-English documents must be accompanied by an English translation certified by a translator. You may not necessarily need to have the full document translated. Translations of the key pages to demonstrate your eligibility may be sufficient.
If you are applying from:
- Within Australia, the translator must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI), or
- Outside Australia, the translator should be qualified and endorse the translated document with their full name, details of their qualification and contact details.
