Wallaga Lake Bridge maintenance works and channel closure
Where
When
The Works
Transport for NSW advises vessel operators that major bridge repair and maintenance works will be undertaken on the Wallaga Lake Bridge, which spans Wallaga Lake at Akolele, commencing on Monday, 15 April 2024 and continuing until Friday, 2 August 2024. (These dates are weather dependent, and the community will be informed in advance of any changes).
Exclusion Zone
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has declared an exclusion zone will be established on the navigable waters of Wallaga Lake at Akolele between the above dates. The zone will envelope the entire bridge, resulting in full closure of the channel at the Wallaga Lake Bridge. The works include the installation of a floating scaffold which will cover the entire length of the bridge and the mobilisation of various plant and equipment including vessels, cranes and surface and sub surface diving activities.
The zone will be marked by the presence of land-based signage and yellow special mark aqua buoys placed within the channel, both upstream and downstream, indicating that the channel is blocked. The buoys will be lit by a flashing yellow light displayed between dusk and dawn. No persons or vessels are permitted to enter the zone or transit under the bridge for the duration of the works.
All vessel operators and persons in the vicinity of the works should exercise caution, keep a proper lookout, remain a minimum of 30 metres from any construction works, comply with any buoyage and signage and ‘minimise wash’ in the vicinity of the bridge.
For further information vessel operators can visit the project website https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/wallaga-lake-bridge or call 1800 015 379 or email Wallaga.Lake.Bridge@transport.nsw.gov.au.
