Navigation Warning
Transport for NSW advises vessel operators that due to recent flooding events the available navigable channel within the Murray River in the vicinity of Lock 7, from approximately the 704 kilometre marker downstream to the 700 kilometre marker at Rufus has reduced considerably due to sand and silt movement and accumulation.
SA Water, who operate and maintain Lock 7, 8 and 9, have reported that sand and silt buildup has greatly reduced the water depth making the area difficult to navigate, and in some cases, dependant on the vessel, impassable. The available water depth throughout the area is currently estimated to be between 400mm to 600mm.
Vessel operators should exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity, keep a proper lookout, travel at a safe speed and comply with all placed buoyage and signage.
