Smart drumlines deployment

Vessel operators are advised that as part of the NSW Government Shark Management Program, the Department of Primary Industries have deployed fifteen (15) SMART (Shark-Management-Alert-in-Real-Time) drumlines, which consist of an anchor, two buoys and a satellite-linked GPS communications unit attached to a hook baited with one sea mullet. These units will be set every morning and retrieved every evening. The buoys are located in offshore waters at the below beaches in the Batemans Bay region.
The buoys
Thirty SMART drumlines have been deployed approximately 500 metres offshore at the following locations:
- Surf Beach
- Lilli Pilli Beach
- Malua Bay Beach
- Mckenzies Beach
- Rosedale Beach
- Barlings Beach
- Tomakin Beach
- North Broulee Beach
- South Broulee Beach
Navigation warning
Vessel operators are advised to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of these locations. This navigation warning remains in place until further notice. Vessel operators are advised that it is an offence to secure or anchor a vessel to the SMART drumlines. Penalties apply.
