Smart drumlines deployment

Vessel operators are advised that as part of the NSW Government Shark Management Program, the Department of Primary Industries will deploy thirty (30) SMART (Shark-Management-Alert-in-Real-Time) drumlines, which consist of an anchor, two buoys and a satellite-linked GPS communications unit attached to a hook baited with one sea mullet. These units will be set every morning and retrieved every evening. The buoys will be located in offshore waters near Windang, Warilla, Barrack Point, Shellharbour, Minnamurra, Kiama Downs, Kiama and Gerringong
The buoys
Thirty SMART drumlines will be deployed approximately 500 metres offshore at the following locations:

- Werri Beach, Gerringong

Vessel operators are advised to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of these locations. This navigation warning remains in place until further notice. Vessel operators are advised that it is an offence to secure or anchor a vessel to the SMART drumlines. Penalties apply.
