The works
Transport for NSW advises vessel operators that in order to improve navigation into the entrance of Shell Cove Boat Harbour at Shell Cove, a sector light and marked and lit navigational channel will be commissioned.
Navigational warning
A sector light is a fixed aid to navigation that displays a light of different colours and/or rhythms over designated arcs. The colour of the light provides directional information to aid navigation of vessels. The safest bearing to approach this sector light is 54o with the centreline channel indicated by a white light. The light remains visible day and night with a range of 5 nautical miles.
The sector light should be used to safely approach Shell Cove Boat Harbour until safely abeam of the lit Starboard and Port lateral aid to navigation markers indicating the entrance to the channel. These lateral markers are lit with a light characteristic of flashing 3's and are visible for 5 nautical miles. Once within the channel, there is a further network of lateral markers with light characteristic flashing 3 seconds and visible for 2 nautical miles. The entire Harbour is subject to a clearly marked and signposted 4-knot speed limit.
Vessel operators are reminded to be extra vigilant when operating in the area.
This navigation warning remains in place until further notice.
