Special event
Vessel operators are advised that a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 is to be held on Sydney Harbour, in Farm Cove from the Port Lateral mark off the Sydney Opera House to Mrs Macquarie’s Point in an arc (as per the attached diagram) at various times as specified above commencing at 9:00am on Monday, 27 March 2023 and concluding at 4:00am on Friday, 28 April 2023.
The event is filming for a motion picture and requires Exclusion Zones in order to capture the desired footage.
Exclusion zone
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Transport for NSW has granted an Exclusive Use Aquatic License to PR Productions Pty Ltd to conduct the event, and an exclusion zone will be established on the navigable waters of Sydney Harbour, in Farm Cove from the Port Lateral mark off the Sydney Opera House to Mrs Macquarie’s Point in an arc (as per the attached diagram) between the above times on the above dates.
The Zone will be patrolled by TfNSW Maritime and NSW Police control vessels. One yellow buoy with a fixed red light will be anchored for the duration of the event from Monday, 27 March 2023 to Thursday, 6 April 2023.
Lighting barges will be used in the production of the film which may have the ability to affect the night vision of masters navigating in the area. Vessel masters are advised to navigate with caution taking into account the possibility of a reduction in night vision capability.
Due to the nature of the activities there will be times when vessels are allowed to enter the exclusion zones for specific purposes and existing wharf bookings at Man O’ War wharf. Masters must obtain prior permission from control vessels before entering the exclusion zones when activated. The activation and deactivation of the Exclusion Zones will be broadcast on marine radio VHF 13.
Directions
Transport for NSW advises that in relation to the exclusion zone:
- Persons within the vicinity of the zone must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
- No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) — Maximum Penalty $1,100.00).
