The Works
Vessel operators are advised that Transport for NSW will be undertaking necessary bridge maintenance on the Swansea Bridges which span the Swansea Channel, Lake Macquarie at Swansea. The works will be conducted from Tuesday, 25 June 2024 to Friday, 28 June 2024 between 7:00am and 5:00pm (depending on the tides).
Navigation Restriction and Warning
A barge will be in use during the works period which at times may restrict vessel access under a single bridge span. This barge will continue to move along the length of the bridge to complete the work.
Yellow buoys will be placed either side of the affected bridge span to warn approaching vessels.
Vessel operators are to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and pay particular attention to construction work vessels, lighting & day shapes and any advisory signage.
Directions
Vessels are required to comply with all signage and buoyage. Failure to comply is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.11(4) - Maximum Penalty $5,500 in relation to wash and $1,100 for any other case).
Persons within the vicinity of the Works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation 2016 – clause 11(2) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00).
