The Cabinet Office is committed to delivering employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We’re focused on building culturally safe workplaces and developing future leaders by offering opportunities from entry level positions right through to senior leadership roles.

Entry-level opportunities
The Cabinet Office offers entry-level programs and pathway opportunities to help people start a career with the department. This includes programs such as CareerTrackers, which offers short-term internships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students, and the NSW Government Graduate Program, which involves placements in different roles across NSW Government over 18-months.
Networking opportunities
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees are strongly encouraged to be involved in available networks and groups.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Advisory Committee
This committee works closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Advisory Group members and provides advice on Aboriginal related workforce initiatives and programs. The committee also works across broader initiatives and matters at The Cabinet Office.
Aboriginal identified and targeted roles
At The Cabinet Office we actively encourage Aboriginal people to apply for all roles. We also support employment opportunities through the use of identified and targeted roles.
Identified roles
Aboriginal identified roles work directly with Aboriginal people and are involved in the development or delivery of services and programs that have an impact on Aboriginal people or involve dealing with Aboriginal communities.
Unlike targeted roles, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply for identified roles as this is considered an essential requirement of the role.
Targeted roles
Aboriginal targeted roles do not necessarily have a direct role working with Aboriginal people nor work specifically on Aboriginal issues. However, roles are sometimes targeted to improve employment outcomes for Aboriginal people, in line with The Cabinet Office objectives.
