The NSW Government has committed an initial investment of $400 million into the Regional Development Trust Fund over 4 years for sustainable and strategic investment with a focus on priorities that make a real difference to regional communities.

The Regional Development Trust Fund will be invested in regional and rural communities through 4 Key Focus Areas: 

  • Sustainable regional industries
  • Aboriginal economic development and enterprise
  • Community connection and capacity building
  • Improving regional service delivery.

The NSW Government is committed to ensuring the investment of public money through the Regional Development Trust Fund is informed by the best available evidence and guided by a clear investment strategy and governance framework.

Investments

The first phase of investments from the Regional Development Roadmap will commit a total of $35 million to initiatives that address the immediate needs of community and industry in regional NSW. 

Engine and Emerging Industries Loan Pilot – Food & Beverage Manufacturing

As part of the $5 million low interest loans program pilot, eligible small and medium enterprises in the food and beverage manufacturing sectors in regional NSW will be able to apply for loans of between $100,000 and $1 million to increase productivity by adopting advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Airstrip improvements in rural and remote NSW

Airstrips in rural and remote NSW are vital hubs for remote businesses and emergency services during times of crisis, and improvements delivered through the $15 million investment will increase connectivity and improve service delivery in some of the most remote parts of NSW. Improvements could include airstrip surface upgrades, exclusion and safety fencing, lighting, and installation of fuel infrastructure.

Aboriginal Economic Development Package

The $5 million Aboriginal Economic Development Package will help Aboriginal businesses and organisations unlock the commercial potential of land and cultural assets and create Aboriginal employment opportunities by delivering on-country training and business development programs.

Western NSW Workforce Activation Package

The $10 million Western NSW Workforce Activation Package will assist eligible childcare providers in Bourke, Broken Hill, and Cobar to expand or upgrade their services or facilities, increasing local childcare availability and helping parents enter or return to the workforce.
