Currently, in order to renew your WWCC you must complete a two-step process. First, you need to visit the WWCC website, enter your reference number, and click renew. From there you need to visit a Service NSW centre to prove your identity before paying the required fee to complete.
Renewing your WWCC should only take seconds in today’s digital era. We’re working hard to make it quicker and more convenient to renew your WWCC online by developing a secure and private NSW Digital ID solution. This will better support people in NSW, particularly those with a disability, who live in rural or regional areas, or those who are time poor.
Simple, private, and secure
Soon you will be able to renew your WWCC anywhere, anytime via the Service NSW website or smartphone app.
Photo verification will be used in the WWCC renewal to strengthen the proof of identity process. People will need to use their desktop, laptop, or phone camera to verify their real-time photo image against their own government-issued ID. This will ensure their identity remains safe and is protected from being imitated online by scammers or hackers. People seeking to renew their WWCCC will be asked to take a selfie to match against an existing photo, such as their driver’s licence. The selfie is not stored by Service NSW and will be discarded as soon as the renewal is complete.
No one else – including us - can view or share your details without your consent. You will always be in control - you decide what to share, how you share it and who you share it with.
This means you will no longer need to visit a Service NSW centre to renew a WWCC unless you want to. This will save people a significant amount of time, while accessibility will also be improved for those who can’t physically get to a service centre.
Coming soon
We’re piloting the new digital WWCC renewal process with small groups before we make this generally available to all people across NSW. This gives us time to test how it works, take participant feedback on board, and make any necessary enhancements.
Proving your identity online will always be optional. You can still visit a service centre to apply for or renew your WWCC. It just means you will no longer have the inconvenience of sharing scans and copies of your physical documentation. These versions won’t be replaced, but you will soon have the option to digitally confirm who you are. The choice will be yours.
