The ‘No Innocent Bystanders’ campaign calls on the community to report domestic violence.
A new video from NSW Police aims to prompt community members who witness signs of domestic violence to report incidents anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said the campaign sent a strong message to the community of its continued commitment to tackling domestic violence.
“Never underestimate the significant role you can play in addressing the scourge of domestic and family violence; what you know could save someone’s life,” Commissioner Scipione said.
“That’s why we’re urging you, if you witness domestic violence, if you’ve noticed the behaviour of a family member, friend or colleague change, or if you have concerns for the welfare of someone in your neighbourhood to please pick up the phone and report that to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
NSW Assistant Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said the perception that domestic violence is a private matter must change.
“If you saw your neighbour’s car being stolen you wouldn’t hesitate for a moment; we want you to treat domestic and family violence with the same response. Do not hesitate – make the call.”
The video was produced under the guidance of members of the NSW Police Domestic Violence Team.
