Step Together provides members of the community, including parents, friends, and colleagues with advice on how to best protect and support those who may be vulnerable to violent extremism.
Trained counsellors will offer users of the service practical advice and intervention support.
Minister for Counter Terrorism David Elliott said family and friends are usually the first to know when a person is being exposed to violent extremist influences.
“This resource will help them spot the warning signs, and divert and protect an individual from violent extremism before law enforcement needs to get involved,” Mr Elliott said.
Step Together joins existing initiatives to combat violent extremism and radicalisation, including:
- specialist school support teams to assist vulnerable students
- improved incident reporting of violent extremism in schools
- empowering community leaders to promote social cohesion
- delivering events which bring together people of different backgrounds.
