The COVID-19 cleaning squads will help protect the community by ramping up cleaning services at key transport hubs across the Sydney CBD.
The dedicated cleaning squad will also provide face masks to commuters at transport hubs including Central, Town Hall, Wynyard, Circular Quay and Martin Place.
Over 1000 touchpoints will be cleaned during each shift to help stop any potential spread of COVID-19. Key touchpoints include transport hub stops, waiting areas and bike racks.
Since March 2020, 1.7 million hours of cleaning services have been carried out across the NSW public transport network.
The additional summer transport services will be extended to March 2021 to help keep commuters safe as more people return to the CBD.
Commuters are reminded to be COVID Safe on public transport. This includes wearing a face mask, sitting or standing on the green dots and maintaining physical distancing where possible.
Face masks are still mandatory on all modes of public transport in the Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong areas.
Heavy on-the-spot fines apply to anyone aged 12 and over found not wearing a face mask on public transport.
Commuters are asked to avoid all non-essential travel and prepare for extreme delays and widespread cancellations as severe weather continues to impact NSW's rail network.
