Foundations laid for Western Sydney jobs boom
Work commences on a new Western Sydney office for thousands of public servants.
The NSW Government’s plan to relocate thousands of jobs to Western Sydney reaches another milestone, with work commencing on a new development in Parramatta to house 1800 Department of Education staff, previously located in Sydney’s CBD.
Dexus Property Group and Built will deliver the 25,000 square metre development at 105 Phillip Street in 2018.
NSW Minister for Finance, Services and Property Dominic Perrottet said the Department of Education's move to Parramatta will reduce the government's CBD footprint and provide more opportunities for people to work closer to home.
“Some of our biggest departments are moving their headquarters out of the CBD and soon Parramatta will be brimming with nearly 2000 more public servants,” Mr Perrottet said.
“The move will also deliver a huge boost to the local economy and provide even more employment opportunities for people in Western Sydney over the long term.”
Parramatta’s economic growth rate is expected to double by 2021, resulting in 22,000 additional jobs and a further 41,000 residents.
Since 2011, more than 1200 public sector jobs have been relocated from Sydney’s CBD to Western Sydney.
