Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson confirmed the number of fish the NSW Government has released into State waters. The fish including a record 413,000 bass, 2.7 million native fish and 2.9 million trout and salmon; were released under the government’s freshwater stocking programs in 2013 and 2014.
“These fingerlings have boosted fish stocks across inland NSW ensuring our fish populations remain strong and continue to be enjoyed by everyone”, Minister Hodgkinson said.
She added, “These fish releases provide huge benefits for regional areas by boosting tourism and providing economic opportunities for regional economies”.
The Port Stephens Fisheries Institute produced and stocked the record number of bass into 22 dams across the State. Meanwhile, The Gaden Trout Hatchery in Jindabyne produced brown trout, rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon and brook trout to aid the program. Over 526,500 Murray Cod, as well as other native fish, were produced at the Narrandera Fisheries Centre.
