Higher subsidies mean child care is now cheaper for most families. Check what support is available to help you on your parenting journey.
Have you checked your eligibility for the child care subsidy? The family income limit is now higher, so some families that previously were not eligible for the subsidy will now get it.

Department of Education – child care package
The Australian Government helps parents and carers who rely on child care to work, train, study or volunteer. The child care package includes subsidies and programs to improve the lives of children in disadvantaged, regional, remote and indigenous communities.
If you need some help or support or just want to talk through a parenting issue, Parent Line provides free telephone counselling and support service for parents and carers with children aged 0 to 18 who live in NSW.
This Australian Government site supports parents and carers who receive the parenting payment, including financial support to put towards the cost of starting work or study.
If you are the carer of a young person who has been in out-of-home care for more than 12 months when they turn 18, and that young person stays living in your home after they turn 18, you are eligible for a new fortnightly payment.
Young people who have recently left out-of-home care can access a new $250 fortnightly payment to help with accommodation and essential living expenses.
Australian Red Cross – Young Parents Program
This program is for parents aged 13 to 25 with complex needs. It provides housing and accommodation, medical support, parenting education and help with legal matters in 4 NSW locations.
If you are a parent of a school-aged child, you may be able to ask your employer for a flexible work arrangement to fit in with your caring responsibilities.

If you support a person with a disability or health issue, there are government payments and services that may help you and the person you care for.
Services Australia – health and disability

National Disability Insurance Scheme
The NDIS is for eligible Australians who were either born with or acquire a permanent and significant disability. Learn more about the support and services that are available to help them achieve their goals.
Seniors and aged care
From discounted services and affordable aged care to food prep or a helping hand around the house, there are options available to help older Australians stay independent.
If you need to access aged care, or you care for an older person who is frail or has a disability, you may be eligible for Services Australia payments and other allowances.
Older Australians can get affordable help with different tasks around the house through My Aged Care home care packages, including cleaning, home maintenance, food preparation and transport.
Carer Gateway offers free services and support for those who care for someone who is unwell or older, such as help with cooking and cleaning and access to planned respite.
Australian Red Cross - services for older people
The Australian Red Cross provides support services for elderly people, such as healthy meal deliveries and companionship volunteers who visit people in their 70s, 80s and 90s at home or in an aged care centre.
