How to build a mentally healthy workplace in regional NSW
We spend a third of our life at work, so making sure mental health is promoted, managed and supported in the workplace is a good place to start addressing these concerns.
Poor access to support services, distance of travel to these services, cost and continued reluctance to seek help all contribute to higher levels of mental ill-health in the regions. According to the NSW Small Business Commissioner momentum survey, over 60% of small businesses in regional and rural NSW indicated that mental health or stress for themselves or their staff is a concern for their business.
Whether it’s a cafe on the north coast, or a farm in the west, a mentally healthy workplace is where everyone feels supported, accepted and empowered at work. They are productive, great places to work.
We've launched a regional resource kit with tailored advice and resources for regional businesses to promote, manage and support mental health at work.
The kit contains simple, easy-to-do actions that business owners and leaders can take to create a mentally healthy workplace no matter the region, size or industry. The kit also outlines factors that impact workplace wellbeing in regional NSW such as separating work and home life, labour shortages, seasonal work and traumatic events.
