Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said the Clean Energy Tours, run by Inside Industry, will provide visitors to Port Kembla an understanding of the precinct and the role it plays in helping NSW achieve a low-carbon emissions-based economy.
“School students, tertiary education groups, business stakeholders and the public now have the opportunity to hear how Port Kembla will shape a renewable energy future while learning about the role Hydrogen plays in revolutionising the energy landscape,” Ms Moriarty said.
“I’m thrilled the NSW Government and Wollongong City Council have worked together to deliver these tours, which not only demonstrates the secure plan we have for the region’s transition to renewables, but also signal a new wave of support for hydrogen-based projects.”Minister for Regional NSW, Tara Moriarty.
Starting at the BlueScope Visitor Centre in September, the two-hour Clean Energy Tours will showcase the ongoing and future renewable energy and hydrogen-based projects around Port Kembla, including:
- Australia’s first heavy vehicle hydrogen refuelling station that is enabling a range of zero emissions trials for trucks and buses, powered by hydrogen produced at Port Kembla from recycled water and renewable energy.
- Renewable energy generated by offshore wind farms that have the potential to create local jobs in steel fabrication, turbine assembly and servicing.
- Australia’s first gas importation terminal being built at Port Kembla that will supply up to 70 percent of the State’s gas needs and help power the region’s fleet of dual fuel hydrogen capable power stations
- BlueScope working towards full Sustainable Steel production and a reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
Minister for the Illawarra and the South Coast Ryan Park said the tours provide residents and visitors from further afield with an opportunity to learn about the benefits renewable energy offers regional communities.
