The NSW Government is investing $350 million in the Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment to respond to the health needs of the growing community and deliver contemporary facilities.
More than 250 patients, staff, carers, volunteers and community members participated in a recent survey to provide feedback on what they would like to see in the redevelopment, which will inform planning for the new health facility. The survey identified key priorities for the community, helping to ensure the redevelopment is tailored to patient, staff, carers and visitor’s needs.
Feedback highlighted preference for more green spaces and access to natural light, updated amenities for staff, patients and carers, better accessibility, signage and wayfinding, and increased patient and visitor parking.
More than 88 per cent of respondents expressed the importance of accessibility for people with disability and their families and carers. Ninety per cent expressed interest for improved parking and drop-off/pick-up areas, while 78 per cent of respondents identified clinical, education, innovation and research as key considerations in planning for the redevelopment.
The survey feedback is directly informing the master planning phase of the redevelopment. The master plan is expected to be released in early 2025 and will outline the vision for the $350 million redevelopment.
Consultation with stakeholders and the community is essential for the planning, design and delivery of the hospital and will continue throughout the project.
