Investing to improve the lives of Aboriginal people
The second Minns Labor Government Budget has committed $139.2 million for Aboriginal Affairs NSW in 2024-25 to improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NSW.
The NSW Government is committed to partnering with Aboriginal people on programs to drive change towards Closing the Gap across health, life expectancy, education and other social outcomes.
Part of the government’s plan to build a better NSW, the targeted funding includes:
- A further $3.5 million for 2024-25 to continue work with the NSW Coalition of Peak Organisations in the design of an Accountability Mechanism and for the continuation of the Data Connectors program, in service of meeting commitments under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
- $17.9 million for the Stolen Generations Keeping Places program. In line with survivors’ wishes, former children’s homes that were used to house stolen generations members will be preserved.
- $6.5 million in 2024-25 to progress an election commitment to deliver stand-alone cultural heritage laws, bringing NSW into line with other jurisdictions.
- $1.7 million in 2024-25 to continue improving access to and preserving archives of the former Aborigines Welfare Board relating to the Stolen Generations.
This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s plan to build better communities for NSW. A plan to improve the lives of all people across the state.
A plan to build a better NSW.
