The data on violence against women across New South Wales remains sobering.
In the year to June 2024, there were 31 domestic violence related murders in New South Wales.
These are more than numbers. These are women whose lives were unjustly taken, who were deeply loved by their family, their friends, their communities. And whose loss continues to be mourned by so many.
Today also marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, where the global community renews its commitment to address the devastating impact of gender-based violence and a call for action from decision makers.
The Minns Labor Government understands the responsibility it bears to address gender-based violence, and remains committed to taking a comprehensive response which includes primary prevention, earlier intervention, crisis support and recovery.
We do not take this responsibility lightly, and will continue to work with experts, communities across the state, those with lived experiences and across party lines to strengthen our response to gendered, domestic and family violence.
