This report presents the key findings of the Community Orders Health Survey 2003-2006 into the physical and mental health of young people serving community orders. Across a range of health indicators, there were significant commonalities between young offenders in custody and those serving community orders. Both groups experienced severely disadvantaged backgrounds characterised by poor physical and mental health, limited educational attainment, disrupted and dysfunctional families, abuse of alcohol and other drugs, risky sex and other risk-taking behaviours.
