Accessible services and facilities
We are committed to making our services and facilities the best they can be to meet the needs of our diverse communities, including people with disability.
If you are having difficulty accessing our services, let us know so that we can try to adjust how we do things (make 'reasonable adjustments') for you, and for others who might experience similar barriers in future.
We encourage everyone who uses our services to give feedback and get involved so that we can continue to improve.
To find out more about the physical access to one of our facilities, for example whether there is a ramp or lift in the building, see the relevant location page.
Many of our services are also available through virtual care (telehealth) appointments. Find out more about virtual care in Nepean Blue Mountains.
If you are deaf or find it hard to hear or speak to people on the phone, the National Relay Service can help. We can also arrange Auslan interpreting in some cases.
You can contact our Disability and NDIS Manager at NBMLHD-DisabilityInclusion@health.nsw.gov.au.
Disability Inclusion Action Plan
Our Disability Inclusion Action Plan (PDF 14.99MB) has been developed in consultation with people with disability and our teams.
If you would like to get involved in delivering our plan, let us know at NBMLHD-DisabilityInclusion@health.nsw.gov.au.
Specialist Intellectual Disability Clinicians
Specialist Intellectual Disability Clinicians (SIDC) work to improve our services so they meet the needs of people with intellectual disability. SIDC work with clinicians at the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District to assess and plan for the care of people with intellectual disability and complex health needs.
For more information contact NBMLHD-IntellectualDisability@health.nsw.gov.au.
National Disability Insurance Scheme
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is available to Australians under the age of 65 who have a permanent disability.
NSW Health staff may be able to support patients with disability who wish to apply to the NDIS, by providing evidence of disability and helping them prepare for their NDIS planning.
Find out more about the NDIS.
Feedback and complaints
The rights of people with disability and their carers are protected by law.
If you are not happy with the quality of the service you receive, the accessibility of the services we provide, or believe you have been discriminated against by one of our services because of disability, you have a legal right to request that we respond to and address your concerns.
If you use health care services in NSW, the Anti-Discrimination Act and (Commonwealth) Disability Discrimination Act are important laws that protect you.
Give feedback to Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, or contact the Health Care Complaints Commission on 1800 043 159.
