What’s this about?

The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking feedback on a proposal by Wollondilly Shire Council to name a reserve in Wollondilly Local Government Area (LGA) as Toggerai Park.

The proposed reserve is located at at 180 Appin Road, Appin and is bounded by the Dharawal National Park.

The word Toggerai (pronounced Tog-ger-ray) is in the local Dharawal language and is thought to be the local Aboriginal name for the Georges River.

The name Toggerai Park has endorsement from the Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council who note the name is appropriate for the location of where the river commences in Appin.
