Program objective
The Cancer Institute NSW, as the leading agency for cancer control in the state, plays a vital role in advancing cancer care and driving innovation in the sector.
On 13-14 August 2025, the Cancer Institute NSW is hosting the NSW Cancer Summit 2025 that will gather national and international leaders in cancer research, clinical practice, and policy. This inaugural event will offer a platform for collaboration, exchange of knowledge, and the development of impactful solutions to address the challenges faced in cancer care today.
The NSW Cancer Summit 2025 Travel Grants will support regional, rural or remote NSW-based attendees of the conference to participate in critical conversations and contribute to shaping the future of cancer care in NSW.
The purpose of the NSW Cancer Summit 2025 Travel Grants is to:
- support professional development and expand the knowledge of all those who attend
- promote and foster collaboration and networking
- build interest and expertise in cancer research, clinical practice and policy development
- disseminate knowledge and information.
This program is funded and administered by Cancer Institute NSW.
Eligibility
- Applicant must reside in a regional, rural or remote NSW location.
- Applicant must be from one of the following institutions or organisations in NSW:
o University
o Medical Research Institute
o Local Health District
o Primary Health Network
o General Practice
o Aboriginal Medical Service
o Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation
o Community Organisation with a Registered ABN.

- Applicants must submit an abstract for consideration and be the presenting author.
Eligible Use of Funds
The travel grant must be used in attending the NSW Cancer Summit 2025. Funds may be used for the following:
- Travel expenses (for example, flights, train fare, taxi charges to/from the airport)
- Reasonable accommodation costs (up to three-star rating)
- Per diem meal reimbursement (Breakfast = $33.90; Lunch is included; Dinner = $64.95)
- Up to $358.90 per day (inclusive of accommodation, meals and incidental expenses
allowance)

Administering Institution Endorsement
Applicants must nominate the administering institution who will be responsible for the financial management of the grant and will sign a Terms and Conditions Letter.
The Administering Institution must have in place policies and procedures for the administration of public funds.
At the time of grant application submission, an Endorsement Letter from the Administering Institution contact on letterhead must be included.
This letter must confirm the following:
- The application is endorsed by the Administering Institution.
- The applicant has not submitted any other travel grant applications in this grant round.
- The Administering Institution agrees to the Terms and Conditions of the travel grant.
- Any other information relevant for the application.
Applications will be reviewed using the following criteria:
- Alignment of the applicant’s abstract with the NSW Cancer Plan and abstract topics.
- Potential benefit of attending the conference to the applicant’s area of work.
The Cancer Institute NSW reserves the right to ensure broad representation from regions across the state.
After the application is submitted
Successful applications will be decided by: The Grants Review Panel. The panel will assess applications based on an assessment of merit against the stated assessment criteria. The panel will put forward recommendations to the Cancer Institute NSW Chief Executive Officer for consideration of funding.
Assessment of grant applications
All applications will undergo an eligibility check to ensure that applicants have met the requirements of the grant.
The Institute utilises a Grants Review Panel who will adhere to the Cancer Institute NSW policies to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of applications. The Institute requires its Grants Review Panel members to declare any conflicts of interest. Conflicts of interest will be managed by the Director of the Strategic Research and Innovation Division.
The Grants Review Panel will assess applications based on an assessment of merit against the stated assessment criteria.
The Grants Review Panel will put forward recommendations to the Cancer Institute NSW Chief Executive Officer for consideration of funding.
