The NSW Ministry of Health is seeking grant applications to improve the capacity of existing alcohol and other drug (AOD) services to work with the families, carers and friends of people using AOD to better support their loved ones and themselves.

Program objective
The grants will seek to enhance the existing AOD service system to deliver family-inclusive, culturally responsive and evidence-informed supports to the families, carers and friends of people using alcohol and other drugs (AOD) to improve their loved one’s treatment outcomes, and their capacity to cope.
The primary aim is to improve health and wellbeing outcomes of people using AOD, and their families, friends and carers. The objectives of the grant are:
- NSW AOD services are better able to engage families, carers and friends in their loved one’s treatment, when consented to
- the families, carers and friends of people who use AOD in risky or harmful ways are better able to support their loved ones in treatment
- the families, carers and friends of people using AOD are supported in their caring role and linked with the supports they need.
Grants of up to $250,000 p.a. per organisation are available. Grants will be awarded for an initial three-year period, with the possibility of extension.
This program is funded and administered by NSW Health.
Eligibility
Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) providing AOD services are eligible to apply for Stream 1 of this grant.
Local Health Districts (LHDs), Specialty Health Networks (SHNs), networked affiliated health organisations are not eligible to apply, but can be in a partnership arrangement or consortium that is led by an NGO or ACCHO who will receive and manage funding.
Stream 2 of this grant, for ACCHOs only, is by invitation. Invitations to submit an application will be based on data indicating areas of need and advice from the Centre for Aboriginal Health. While ACCHOs can apply for both streams, only one grant will be allocated to any individual organisation.

After the application is submitted
Successful applications will be decided by: Executive Director, Centre for Alcohol and Other Drugs, NSW Ministry of Health on the recommendation of the grant assessment panel.
Applicants will receive an acknowledgement of receipt within 48 hours. The applications will be assessed and both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified.
