What is a Vocational Training Order?
A Vocational Training Order (VTO) is issued under the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 for each apprenticeship or traineeship. The VTO specifies:
- the qualification to be undertaken as part of an apprenticeship/traineeship; and
- the term of training for the apprenticeship/traineeship; and
- whether the apprenticeship/traineeship can be undertaken part time or full time; and
- the minimum hours to be worked if undertaking part-time; and
- the probationary period: and
- whether the apprenticeship/traineeship can be undertaken whilst at school; and
- any other prerequisites, including qualifications or licenced supervision etc; and
- whether an apprenticeship/traineeship may be accessed by direct entry or advanced entry.
An apprenticeship or traineeship MUST be undertaken in accordance with the appropriate VTO.
What is advanced entry?
Advanced entry is where a person has completed a lower level qualification specified in the VTO (same National Code) and is given an automatic term reduction (amount also specified in the VTO).
Applicants who hold the lower level qualification specified in the VTO MUST comply with the advanced entry VTO.
