Natalie MacDonald, Lead Teacher, Erina Heights Public School
Natalie MacDonald knew from an early age that she wanted to work with children. Teaching seemed the logical choice and proved to be a career that offered more than she could have hoped for.
Natalie lives and works on the Central Coast of NSW. She recently secured a Principal position at Erina Heights Public School.
'I love living and working on the Central Coast,' explains Natalie.
'My passion is primary teaching, however, over the past 15 years I have been fortunate enough to have worked right across kindergarten to year 12 and to have taught years 7 -10 mathematics.'
Lead Accreditation was another logical step in Natalie’s career.
'I am constantly looking for ways to better myself as a leader,' she says.
A few years ago, when Natalie was actively leading curriculum within the school and the district, she considered her options.
'Lead Accreditation has provided a fantastic opportunity to grow as a professional,' she says.
'There is a great deal of internal learning and development that goes on.
'It is a reflective process and one that I would recommend to others who are considering what is next in their career.'
Since obtaining Lead Accreditation, Natalie has actively pursued related professional learning opportunities and connections with other Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers.
'I love being able to share my learnings with others, particularly as there are not many people who have been through the process,' she explains.
'I am currently working with beginning teachers and others to mentor and support them in their understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and all aspects of teaching.
'That’s good for me and good for teaching on the whole.'
