Pathways to submit evidence
Choose a pathway to complete your modules
You may choose to develop and complete your modules and Site Visit through one of 3 pathways. Depending on the pathway you take, you may submit various types of evidence across your application. Across your application, you must submit to NESA documentary evidence demonstrating your direct impact for at least 10 Standard Descriptors (one module equivalent).
The 3 pathways are:
- Documentary evidence submitted to NESA for both modules
- NESA recognised program in Module 1 and documentary evidence in Module 2
- Documentary evidence in Module 1 and NESA recognised program in Module 2.
If required, there is an opportunity to revise your evidence after the completion of Module 2.
Submit documentary evidence to NESA for both modules
Module 1 and 2
In each module you submit to NESA, you must nominate 10 Standard Descriptors and submit no more than 5 sets of evidence demonstrating your practice and its impact on students or children and colleagues.
One module of the documentary evidence must demonstrate direct impact of your practice on students or children and colleagues.
Your documentary evidence:
- must demonstrate the impact of your practice at the relevant HALT level
- must include a report of your observation of a colleague’s teaching practice
- may demonstrate the indirect impact of your practice while you are in a non-school/service based role (for one module only)
- may include evidence produced in a collaborative project that is verified by your principal, service director, or employer, or their delegate.
A NESA recognised program in Module 1 and documentary evidence in Module 2
Module 1
You will complete a NESA recognised program that aligns with up to 10 Standard Descriptors at the Highly Accomplished level. The program manager, who is a NESA trained HALT Assessor, will assess your evidence produced during the program and verify whether your practice and impact for the nominated Standard Descriptors aligns with the Highly Accomplished level of Standards.
Module 2
After you complete the NESA recognised program, if your program manager verifies that you do not fully demonstrate the nominated Standard Descriptor(s), you will need to submit documentary evidence aligned to those Standard Descriptor(s) in Module 2. This could mean that you may submit more than the standard 5 sets of documentary evidence in Module 2.
Following your Site Visit, you will submit in Module 2 documentary evidence to NESA for any outstanding Standard Descriptors. In this module your documentary evidence:
- must demonstrate the direct impact of your practice on students or children and colleagues at the relevant HALT level
- must include a report of your observation of a colleague’s teaching practice
- must address any outstanding Standard Descriptors, including any mandated Standard Descriptors not demonstrated in the NESA recognised program
- may include evidence produced in a collaborative project showing direct impact verified by your principal, service director, or employer.
Documentary evidence in Module 1 and a NESA recognised program in Module 2
Module 1
You must nominate 10 Standard Descriptors in Module 1 and submit no more than 5 sets of evidence demonstrating the nominated Standard Descriptors and the direct impact of your practice on students or children and colleagues.
In this module, your documentary evidence:
- must demonstrate the direct impact of your practice at the relevant HALT level
- must include a report of your observation of a colleague’s teaching practice
- may include evidence produced in a collaborative project showing direct impact verified by your principal, service director or employer.
Module 2
In this module you will complete a NESA recognised program. The program manager, who is a NESA trained HALT Assessor, will assess your evidence produced during the program and verify whether your practice and impact for between 6–10 nominated Standard Descriptors aligns with the Highly Accomplished level of Standards.
If the NESA recognised program does not account for the balance of the 20 Standard Descriptors including any of the remaining mandated Standard Descriptors, you must submit documentary evidence directly to NESA to address any outstanding Standard Descriptors.
After you’ve completed the NESA recognised program, if the program manager verifies that you do not fully demonstrate the nominated mandatory Standard Descriptor(s), you must submit documentary evidence for those Standard Descriptor(s) as part of Module 2. The documentary evidence will be assessed by HALT Assessors that NESA assigns.
Site Visit
For all pathway options you will need to submit a Site Visit Request and complete it after you submit Module 1 and before you submit Module 2.
Learn about the requirements for a Site Visit.
Assessment of documentary evidence
At least 2 NESA-trained HALT assessors assess your documentary evidence modules. It will take up to 28 days to assess any module. This does not include school holidays and employer shutdown periods. You will be advised if NESA allocates a third assessor, in which case an additional 7 days will be required to complete the assessment.
Module report
Following assessment of a documentary evidence module, you will receive a HALT Module Report. The report will contain feedback and advice on the extent to which your practice and impact of your practice has been fully, partially, or not demonstrated against the nominated Standard Descriptors.
You should carefully read your HALT Module Report to understand the reasons for the assessment and feedback on how to address any Standard Descriptors not yet fully demonstrated.
You can resubmit documentary evidence aligned to the Standard Descriptors in a future module.
Participate in a workshop or NESA Learning unit on HALT accreditation to help you understand the HALT Module Report and maximise the feedback provided.
Revision after Module 2
After your second module is assessed, we may ask you to revise and submit documentary evidence where one or more Standard Descriptors have not yet been fully demonstrated.
You will have 3 months to submit these revisions.
Once you resubmit evidence for the Standards not yet fully demonstrated, 2 HALT Assessors will reassess your revised documentary evidence and provide you with a HALT Module Report.
