Find out about NESA's risk-based approach to regulation, which includes randomly inspecting schools.
NESA randomly selects 26 schools to inspect annually. To proportionally represent each schooling sector, this comprises 18 government schools, 4 individual non-government schools and 4 systemic non-government schools.

During the inspections, schools are asked to provide a sample of the materials identified in the Evidence of Compliance sections from the relevant sections of the applicable registration manual:
Requirements for 2018
The subset of requirements to be inspected in 2018 will relate to either Strand A or Strand B.
A total of 13 schools will be selected in relation to Strand A, and another 13 will be selected in relation to Strand B.
In 2018, the Strand A requirements are:
Safe and supportive environment – child protection; AND
Safe and supportive environment – student welfare - supervision of students
AND, if the school delivers Stage 6 courses
Policies and procedures to monitor the delivery of Stage 6 courses including compliance with HSC pattern of study requirements.
In 2018, the Strand B requirements are:
Evidence relating to the standard of teaching and student engagement in learning demonstrated through the Key Learning Area of Mathematics in a specified stage of schooling.
AND
Evidence relating to assessment planning including policies and procedures for monitoring, recording and allocating grades to students in each course.
