NESA wishes to advise that the Stage 6 Indonesian Extension, Japanese and Literature, and Korean Continuers courses are at risk of suspension due to their very low candidatures in 2017.
NESA has determined that when the candidature of an HSC course falls below 15 for each of three consecutive years, the subject will be suspended (BOSTES 9/15).
Should the final HSC candidature for the Indonesian Extension, Japanese and Literature, or Korean Continuers courses fall below 15 in 2018 and 2019, the courses will be suspended following the 2021 HSC examinations. If at some time later, demand and sustainability increase to a level where the subject would again become viable as an HSC course, the course may be reactivated.
Should there be a school in NSW with students wishing to study Indonesian Extension, Japanese and Literature, or Korean Continuers after the suspension date, schools and community members are advised that a school may seek approval to offer the courses as School Developed Board Endorsed Courses.
