Thirty-four teachers have been celebrated for attaining the highest levels of accreditation in a prestigious ceremony today, held at NSW Parliament House.
The event, held on World Teachers’ Day, recognised the latest cohort of NSW teachers who have achieved Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation. 240 teachers work in metro schools, with another 97 working in schools in the NSW regions.
HALT accreditation reflects on the exemplary and innovative teaching practices of educators, that enhance and improve learning outcomes across schools and early childhood services.
To support more teachers applying, NESA has continued to simplify the HALT process to ensure teachers are better supported in applying and the workload burden is reduced.
NSW now has 366 HALT accredited teachers statewide in NSW classrooms and early childhood centres, with more than 1,000 teachers having started the application process.
The event also honoured the state’s 170,000+ teaching workforce, in celebration of World Teachers’ Day.
To help celebrate the profession, the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) launched the NSW Teaching Gems Map for the second consecutive year, following its popularity in 2023.
To date, more than 8400 messages have been shared on the NSW Teaching Gems map, with students, parents and colleagues honouring educators who had an impact on their learning and lives.
While NESA's NSW Teaching Gems map has now closed, entries will remain live until January so the school community can continue to celebrate their teachers.
NSW Education Standards Authority Chief Executive Officer Paul Martin said:
“It is fantastic to see such a strong calibre of teachers being recognised in this year's cohort of HALT accredited teachers and to celebrate their skills and accomplishment.”
"Our Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers come from all over NSW, Leeton in the West, Port Macquarie in the East, Sutherland in the South and Terranora in the North.”
“I encourage more teachers to pursue HALT accreditation. It is a wonderful achievement that recognises the expertise and quality of teachers in NSW and encourages professional growth from within the teaching profession.”
“Congratulations to all HALT recipients today, we value your contribution to education and our student's."
“To all NSW teachers – I wish each of you are happy World Teachers’ Day and acknowledge the work you do every day – to prepare the next generation of learners for the world.”
