It was lights, cameras, action over the weekend, with the official start of the 2024 HSC Creative Arts Showcase, starting with a masterclass in performance from 61 HSC Drama Graduates.
Across the month of February 166 recently graduated HSC students will perform in one of three creative arts showcases at some of Sydney's top venues.
For OnStage, the Drama alum will showcase their performances that stole the show during marking.
Callback, which will feature 43 Dance students performing twice a day at the Seymour Centre from 13 February, presents some of the top talents across performance and composition.
The HSC Performance Showcase will reach its final crescendo with Encore at Sydney’s best-known landmark, the Sydney Opera House on 24 February.
Here, 64 HSC Music students will share their talents with the public and school community.
The showcases provide examples to current students, teachers and the general public of the high standards that can be achieved in the practical component of each HSC course.
The works reflect the full breadth of talent in all NSW schools including government, Catholic, independent, metropolitan and regional schools.
While many students are nominated for meeting the robust criteria, only a limited number of exemplary works can be selected for exhibition and performance.
Online resources including a virtual walk though of the OnStage exhibition and new and existing student masterclasses will be available across all creative arts showcases to ensure all schools and communities have access to the outstanding work on display.
Visit NESA's HSC Showcases Hub for a full list of selected students.
NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) CEO Paul Martin said:
“Congratulations to the 2,937 students and their schools who were nominated for one of the three prestigious creative arts showcases, in theatres over the next month.
“A nomination is a signal to those students that they met high standards in their practical exams and met marking criteria on the day.
“This is a major milestone for the 166 graduates selected who now have a chance to show off the depth and breadth of their creativity.
“All the best on your future careers – whether in the arts or another industry, the skills you have honed and nurtured will take you far.”
