HSC Rules and Procedures Guide 2025

The Higher School Certificate (HSC) Rules and Procedures Guide details the main rules and requirements that must be followed by all candidates in the HSC for 2025.

All students entered for any HSC course must read this guide and sign the Confirmation of Entry form.

Practical exam rules

You must certify that a practical or performance exam is all your own work. Understand how you need to certify your major project.

Exam equipment list

Come to your exam prepared with the right equipment in working order. Find out what you are allowed to bring to your exam.

Approved calculators

Only calculators approved by NESA can be used in HSC exams. Find the full list of the approved calculators and the approval process for calculator suppliers.

Exam audio files

Schools need to support the delivery of audio files for HSC exams with a listening component. Find the courses that use audio files and view the audio requirements.

Breaking HSC rules

Students who break HSC rules put themselves at risk of not being eligible for the award of the HSC. Find out more about what you should and shouldn't do during your exams.

Illness and misadventure

If you become sick or experience a mishap in the time leading to your exams, you can follow the illness and misadventure process. Find out how it works and the evidence you need to provide.

Artificial Intelligence

Students using Artificial Intelligence for formal HSC assessments and submitted works must abide by existing NESA rules governing academic integrity.

Students must know what they can and cannot do.
