Learn about showcase nominations
Some HSC courses have a practical exam component. The practical exam can be in the form of a project, submitted work or a performance. Like other HSC exams, the practical exams are marked by experienced HSC teachers who are well-trained to consistently apply the marking guidelines to these works.
During the practical HSC marking operations, markers identify exemplary works that reflect the syllabus outcomes and high achievement of the marking criteria. These identified exemplary works are known as a nomination.
An exemplary HSC project, submitted work or performance that reflects the syllabus outcomes, content, and meets all HSC exam requirements can be nominated.
Only the practical component of a course is considered when a work is nominated.
A nomination does not correlate to a certain HSC mark or reflect achievement in a certain performance band.
Experienced HSC teachers are selected to mark HSC exams. All markers participate in specialised briefing and practice marking sessions before marking student works.
Marking is done either itinerantly (in schools) or in a corporate venue between August and October.
If a student’s work is nominated, the student will receive an email and SMS with information to view messages in their Students Online account.
Principals are also sent an email to the email address recorded in Schools Online. See the Showcase nomination timeline.
For their work to be considered for selection into the Showcase program, students must accept their nomination.
All instructions on how to accept the nomination can be found in Students Online.
Once a nomination is accepted and all necessary supporting materials are received, the projects, submitted works and performances go through a comprehensive selection process to determine which are selected for a showcase.
